Asbestos case: A French company gets maximum sentence
07/03/2008
On 6 March 2008, the court of appeal of Douai (north of France) upheld the sentence ruled last September by a criminal court against Alstom Power Boilers.
The company manufactures industrial boilers in Lys-les-Lannoy in the north of France, near Roubaix. It was found guilty of exposing its employees to asbestos.
Alstom Power Boilers was given the maximum fine of €75,000 by the court of appeal. It was however decided to give the former company director a jail sentence of 3 months instead of 9 months and a €3,000 fine.
