France: occupational injuries decline in the building sector, but not occupational diseases
06/02/2008
According to a statistical report by French national research and safety institute INRS, the number of occupational injuries in the building sector is declining constantly, but the number of occupational diseases increased until 2002 and has been stable since 2003. By comparison with 2005, the number of serious injuries has declined sharply, especially in the case of falls from a height and traffic accidents. The main causes of accidents are manual handling (33%), accidents on the same level (21.4%) and accidents involving a fall from a height (17.9%). In 2006, MSD were the most common occupational diseases, but asbestos caused the most deaths.
