The ILO wants to put an end to child labour
218 million children aged between 5 and 17 are being forced to work worldwide. On the occasion of the World Day against Child Labour on June 12th 2006, these statistics were made public by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). Moreover, they revealed that Asia is the most affected continent in the world with 123 million children forced to work. Africa was next with 50 million. In Sub-Saharan Africa, 26% of children between the ages of 5 and 14 are forced to work. In Africa, 50,000 children are subjected to prostitution or pornography.
