Shift workers are more likely to suffer from circulatory illnesses

A new study carried out by researchers from the Danish Institute of  Occupational Health has suggested that workers who do not work during the day have a higher risk of having circulatory diseases.

A large group of 5,517 Danish workers who were employed in 1990 underwent hospital treatments for circulatory problems between 1991 and 2002, ie for a period of 12 years. They were monitored and the study concluded that non-day workers have a 31% higher probability of getting circulatory problems versus day-workers. Shift workers who had at least a three-year seniority could have a risk as high as 40%.
