Poland: Increase in fatal injuries on construction sites in 2005
Between 2000 and 2004, fatal injuries occurring on construction sites had declined sharply, from 139 casualties in 2000 to 97 in 2004. But in 2005, the number of fatalities rose back over the hundred mark, with 114 fatal injuries. These 114 injuries account for 25% of the total number of fatal injuries in Poland. The lack of safety measures but also the lack of training of workers in workplaces are the cause of these fatal accidents, with falls from a height being the commonest type of accident.
