France Half of the French working force is affected by postural and articular patterns
Almost 50% of French workers are confronted with at least one postural and articular constraint, according to new data from the SUMER survey published last March.
More than two thirds of manual workers are affected by this constraint whereas only 20% of the managers are concerned. The problem is serious especially among contracts of apprenticeship and young and part-time workers. Postural and articular patterns trigger musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) which are the main cause of occupational diseases in Europe.
The last SUMER survey was carried out in 2002-2003 with the collaboration of 1,800 company doctors and of 50,000 employees who were interviewed. The survey attempts to describe the occupational risks present at the workplace in France. It is an initiative of DARES, an organization accountable to the French Ministry of Labour.
