Glimmerings of hope for preventing risks of violence
In a press release issued on 23 January 2006, Sweden’s Labour Administration (Arbetsmiljöverket) heralds a tightening-up of the rules on cash transport:
- A risk assessment will be required for each run, as well as checks that positioning and alarm systems are working properly throughout the run.
- Checks will also be done on the set-up and operation of alarm and GPS or equivalent systems.
- Technical measures must make it impossible to take possession of cash between collection and delivery without it being destroyed.
Cash transport companies have until 3 February to comment on the proposed rules, after which the Administration will take a final decision.
The Administration will also be beefing up the rules on funds transport to cashpoints or ATMs (“holes in the wall”) from 30 January 2007.
The provisions on preventing the risks of violence will be up for negotiation by the European social partners with a view to a framework agreement.
