South Korea: new restrictions to the import and use of asbestos

The South Korean Governement has decided in October 2005 to adopt new asbestos regulations. Under the new rules, import and use of asbestos will be seriously restricted. In 2004, South Korea imported 14.000 tons of asbestos. In the last five years, 29 people have been diagnosed with asbestos-caused cancer. 22 of them already died and the chance of the others survivving is low.
