Directive on optical radiations : EFBWW condemns the exclusion of solar radiation

The European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW) condemns the amendments adopted by the European Parliament aiming at excluding solar radiation from the directive draft  on optical radiation.

"If the Council accepts the changes made by the EP then this is for the first time a breach with the basic principle of unified minimum legislation of occupational health and safety at European level", said the EFBWW.

The workers' federation drew the attention to the fact that "the role of the Commission is to ensure the highest protection of workers’ health and safety." "The obligation to do so is laid down in the Treaty and in the existing health and safety at work framework directive", added the EFBWW.

The EFBWW has also criticised the poor media coverage concerning the issue and the negative attitude of the German members of the European Parliament.

The trade union federation is bringing to the attention of the autorities the fact that the health and safety of millions of workers is in danger: "A directive regulating the health and safety of these workers is not an act of Brussels bureaucracy, but a necessity to protect these workers life."
