Spain: first report of the Occupational Health Observatory
The "Observatorio de Salud Laboral" (Occupational Health Observatory) has published its first report. It addresses the issue of improving the scientific activities in the field of health and safety.
The report focuses its goal on the study of different modalities of organizing scientific and technological activities at an institutional level as a way to support workplace health and safety promotion policy actions.
The report describes standard practices on these topics developed in six countries (Denmark, Finland, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Québec), based upon information retrieved from the web sites of their respective specialized institutions. Identifying the characteristics of workplace health and safety national agencies, and finally contrasting those characteristics one with each other, we have been allowed to identify a number of operational patterns, as well as some examples of good practice. The vision, the relations with users and the resource management seem to be key elements for effectiveness in an occupational health and safety subsystem based on scientific and technological principles.
