France: One in six workers is exposed to hostility at work
07/06/2008
17% of the workers report to be exposed to systematically hostile treatment from one or more persons at their workplace. These difficult situations can be a risk factor for their mental health. Less qualified workers appear to be more frequently exposed while middle-aged workers and workers in small enterprises are less concerned. Hostile treatment often occurs where hierarchical constraints are strong and the pace of work is high. They are also more frequent where work organisation is perceived to be less effective and where they signal a lack of social support from colleagues and the management.
