The website of a French magazine specialized in health issues has reported that the association of victims of various forms of occupational cancer were intending to sue their current employer and possibly former employers.
At their latest General Assembly, the victims announced they were planning on taking their employers to Court.
In April of last year, the committee had already won a court case. Adisseo was found guilty of gross negligence and was therefore liable to compensate nine workers ill with kidney cancer.
Adisseo is the world’s third largest producer of animal feed supplement. Since 1982, the mutagen and carcinogen Chloracetal C5 has been used to produce vitamin A for animals. According to reliable sources, the company is still using this substance although Adisseo’s competitors have demonstrated that C5 was not indispensable for the production of vitamin A.
Recent cases of cancer have been reported among Adisseo’s workers. Since this issue has become public knowledge, 32 cases of kidney cancer, 11 cases of bladder cancer and 5 cases of colon cancer were diagnosed among current and former Adisseo’s workers. This means these people have a 500-fold risk of getting cancer compared to others.
