ETUI involved in ISO technical committee on nanotechnology

22/06/2010
The ETUI Health and Safety Department is developing its work on nanotechnologies and nanomaterials towards standardisation. Standards crucially buttress EU policy on nanotechnologies, so it is vital for unions to have a say in formulating them.

The International Organisation for Standardisation’s (ISO) Technical Committee 229 on ‘Nanotechnologies’ held its 10th meeting in Maastricht (Netherlands) from 17 to 21 May.

The ETUI was present in the working group on Terminology and Nomenclature. The representative of the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), Mr Frank Barry, who is also a member of the ETUC working group on nanotechnologies, and previously sat as an observer in ISO TC 229 was recently appointed an expert participating member of the committee.
